| Chavutti Thirumal - Massage by Foot Pressure
History of Chavutti
Chavutti Thirumal (massage by foot pressure) originated and developed
in South India alongside the Kalari system (a martial art), Kathakali
dancers and practitioners of yoga. This massage technique was
developed for maintaining suppleness in the body and for treating
pain and swelling caused by combat.
It is equally suitable however as a treatment for those not involved
in regular or strenuous physical exercise who wish to encourage
their own fitness and well-being. Some of the benefits of this
massage technique are that it:
- Encourages muscle tone
- Assists in releasing muscle tension
- Improves circulation
- Connects the breath and the spine to aid deep relaxation
Indian rope massage is entirely unique: your body will be massaged
by my feet whilst my balance is held by a suspended rope. Long
sweeping movements are incorporated, with varying degrees of pressure
as appropriate for each client. Working with the breath is an
integral part of the treatment. A full session can last up to
two hours.
